TOPIC: Intimate Connection With Christ (Anglican Devotional 13 June 2021)
READ: John 15:6-11 (NKJV)
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw [them] into the fire, and they are burned.
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
” As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and [that] your joy may be full.
Jesus Christ is the True Vine; believers are the branches. According to Romans 11:18, Christ is the root which bears the tree, diffuses sap to it and is responsible for its truthfulness. Just as grapes can be produced only by remaining attached to the vine, we can only produce spiritual fruit that pleases the Father and thus be in the kingdom of God only if we remain attached to Jesus Christ. He did not only pay the penalty of our sins, but He also supplies the spiritual nourishment to produce fruit that glorifies the Father. Abiding in Christ means believing He is God’s Son, receiving Him as Saviour and Lord. doing His will, continuing in faith and relating to the community of believers – the Body of Christ.
Jesus invites one and all to come and have a relationship with Him. However, anyone who rejects this offer will be cut off like a branch and dry up. There is no special requirement to be a branch in Jesus’ vine except to believe and abide in Him. He wants you to make Him your home, where you remain intimately connected and at peace. You can be your best self when you abide in Him. This is the only way you can live a joyful and fulfilled life.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to remain connected to You all through the troubles of life. Amen.
